Now it’s not only Weddings that we perform at. Although we’re based in the UK, we love nothing more than being asked to take our brand of undercover waiters abroad, especially when it’s onboard a cruise ship in Paris! Recently, Jess and Tobias from the team travelled all the way to Paris, France for a corporate event. More specifically the Personal Travel Agents Conference onboard The Uniworld SS Joie de Vivre river cruise ship. Not only that, but after the performance the ship docked in front of the Eiffel Tower, and all guests were treated to the spectacular light show. Here we will go through how it went, and what we needed to make sure our performance went off without a hitch.

Travel

For this particular event, our surprise singers managed to travel to France the day of the event, and come home the following day. So after a VERY early start, Jess and Tobias were on their way via the Eurostar to surprise guests at the conference. As this was an evening event, we booked an early train directly to Paris which meant they arrived by 11am ready to board the ship. If you’re having a wedding or event in France and are worried that flights will be too expensive, the Eurostar is a quicker and more cost effective way of getting our secret singers to you. Travel expenses were less than £100 each return fare. So if you’re weighing up having undercover singers to surprise your guests, this may be the option for you.

Equipment

As this was a slightly different event and the venue was a little bit different to what we’re used to (a cruise ship!) we did have a PA system and sound technician provided for us on this occasion. This really helped when Jess & Tobias were smuggled onboard without guests realising to then act as incognito singing waiters. It also meant that the equipment was already set up for us, and we could sound check as quickly as possible without guests realising. All we had to do was set up our microphones, and they were ready to go! Usually we are able to travel with the majority of our PA system which will help save on costs. Equipment that we are able to travel with includes our microphones, mixing desk, leads, cables, extensions leads and travel adapters (just to make sure everything works). The only equipment we would need provided would be speakers so that we can plug everything directly into them. You’ll find that your venue may already have this, or if you’re having a DJ, that they can help.

Singing Waiters Performance

After our singing staff were safely onboard, it was time for the cruise ship to leave port and head over to the middle of the River Seine for dinner, the performance, and to watch the light show. After a 3 course meal, Tobias kickstarted the performance with a tray drop before bursting into song with Queen’s “Don’t Stop Me Now”, as Jess then joined him with Frankie Valli’s “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You”. They had everyone napkin waving to “That’s Amore”, step kicking to “New York, New York” and we even learnt a special song request as their theme song was “Rather Be” by Jess Glynne. We love adding a personal touch to our performances, so if you have a special song that means something to you, as long as we have 4 weeks notice (and there’s a decent backing track available) then we will be more than happy to learn 1 additional song. Summary

The rest of the evening was spent sharing a drink with the clients and watching the Eiffel Tower light show, all before heading back to the hotel the client had provided for us. The next day was a whistle stop tour visiting some of sights in Paris such as the Champs-Élysèes, the Louvre and the Arc de Triomphe. Then it was time to catch the Eurostar home. All in all, a very successful and eventful 48 hours spent in Paris for our secret servers.
