A very good question indeed! We’d like to think we’re the best singing waiters out there (modest too) but we’ve put together a few reasons on what we think sets us apart from the rest. For those that don’t know me, I’m Libby and I run Undercover Artists. We’re lucky enough to perform at over 300 Weddings and events per year so I’d like to think we know what we’re talking about by now (or at least I’d hope so)!
All our singers are trained
We only use the best! All of our singers are trained professionals, and have either appeared in West End shows, UK number 1 tours, or onboard Cruise Ships touring the World. When I started the company nearly 9 years ago in 2015 there were only 4 of us, the team has now grown to 25+ singers. Our singing staff are still involved in the performing industry, so from time to time they will dip in and out of being singing waiters. For instance in 2024 we have Matt playing Montparnasse in “Les Miserables” in the West End, Luke is about to go on tour playing the lead in “An Officer and a Gentleman” and Ian will be playing Pumba in Disney’s “The Lion King”. We only use the same core team of performers which are featured on the website, so you will never have someone who isn’t part of Undercover Artists. We have all worked together throughout the years and have been recommended by another member of the group so we are all friends.
We can perform all styles of music
Due to our training in Musical Theatre, each singer specialises in a different style of music which is why we’re able to offer such an extensive song list. For example myself, James, Alana and Lucy are all Classical singers, so if you’re wanting something like Nessun Dorma, one of us would be assigned. Alex was in the D Day Darlings (Britain’s Got Talent finalists) so excels in Jazz, and then we have the likes of Beth, Jess and Tobias who can belt out the biggest pop hits. You only choose the style you would like, but we’re able to cater to all events.
All our songs are properly arranged and rehearsed
Every song on our song list I have learnt, created harmonies for, recorded 3 separate parts (tune, harmony and a together track) before sending these over to the team to learn. We then spend our time rehearsing to make sure the songs are polished and sounding great for your event.
We sound check
Believe it or not, not a lot of companies do. But it’s SO important to arrive and give yourself the time to not only sing through everything together, but to check that the levels of the songs/microphones are suitable. It’s also to make sure all equipment is working and that there aren’t any issues. We arrive 2 hours before your guests are due to arrive to set up and sound check, this allows us plenty of time.
We arrange a planning call
4 weeks before your event I will be in touch to arrange our planning call. When arranging a suitable time, I’ll send over our up to date song list, plus a recommended short-list tailored for the surprise singers assigned to your day. On our call we will go through all timings, other things you may have planned throughout the day, and your finalised song choices. The week before your event I will send over an email with emergency contact details of the singing waiters, any questions the venue may have come back to me with, and to make sure that you’re happy with everything.
We speak to the venue and catering team
We always call the venue a week before the event to introduce ourselves and let the venue/catering team know who will be arriving on the day. Jess from the team is our venue co-ordinator, she will run through all details that we have discussed during our planning call. Double checking timings, uniform, parking, room requirements and sending over our PAT/PLI certificates. It’s also important just in case another family member, or even your other half has booked a different singing waiters company to turn up on the day (believe it or not this has happened, although it’s very rare). We do advise letting your venue know that you’ve booked us and our company name.
We are female led
It’s rare, but we’re proud to be a female led company. Originally secret singers are male, but the company is run by 2 women. I started Undercover Artists 9 years ago, and in the last 2 years Jess has come onboard to become our Venue Co-ordinator and social media manager.
I hope this has helped make up your mind just a little when deciding on our undercover waiters and we can’t wait to be a part of your day.
